MOHINI DEY is an internationally acclaimed bassist, vocalist, composer, arranger and producer whose virtuosity, commanding stage presence and musical range have made her one of the most distinctive artists of her generation. Born and raised in Mumbai and now based in Los Angeles, she began her professional career at just nine years old. The first fifteen years of her career were built largely as a sideman, performing and touring alongside major international artists and developing a reputation as one of the most formidable bassists on the global stage. Over the last two years, that story has entered a new chapter: Mohini has been touring independently as a bandleader, presenting her own music and building her own audience across major festivals and prestigious venues worldwide.
Her music brings together contemporary jazz fusion, funk, progressive intensity and Indian rhythmic concepts, with the bass functioning not only as the foundation but as a lead melodic and expressive voice. Before establishing her current independent bandleader chapter, Mohini built an extraordinary foundation as a sideman, performing, recording and touring with internationally renowned artists including Quincy Jones, Steve Vai, Zakir Hussain, Stanley Clarke, A.R. Rahman, WILLOW, Victor Wooten, Vinnie Colaiuta, Jordan Rudess, Mike Stern, Dave Weckl, Simon Phillips, Chad Smith, Guthrie Govan, Plini, Dennis Chambers and Larnell Lewis. That depth of experience now informs a live project centered on Mohini’s own compositions, musical direction and identity as a front-line artist.
Mohini’s 2026 album, The Dey Way, expands her identity as a composer, producer and bandleader. Featuring an international cast of leading musicians, it presents a contemporary, bass-forward sound designed for the festival stage. Her show scales from an intimate jazz-club presentation to a large stage while retaining elite musicianship, dynamic interplay and a distinctive India-to-America artistic identity.
